Carbon filters must be protected from grease. The filter media of a carbon filter is so fine that grease molecules will rapidly lead to clogging of a carbon filter.
To combat this, pre-filters, comprising panel and bag filters are installed prior to the carbon media to remove as much grease as possible.

A high velocity efflux cone is a vertical discharge stack that is open at the top?
Inside the efflux cone, there is an arrangement of baffle plates, and drain trays that allow the air to pass out, whilst funnelling water that would otherwise enter the ductwork to drain away.
